Promoting Ad Standards with APEC

On 23 and 24 August 2017, around 60 delegates attended a Conference on Advertising Standards held in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, under the auspices of APEC, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation. The event was a follow-up to the Action Agenda on Advertising Standards adopted by APEC leaders in 2014 to support the development of Advertising Self-Regulation in the Asia Pacific region.

The ICAS President and several ICAS members took part in the event, which brought together Self-Regulatory Organizations (SROs) from APEC economies to share best practices around responsible advertising.

Opportunities and challenges for developing a Self-Regulatory System in markets like Viet Nam and China were discussed via case studies, while several industry representatives advocated for a better alignment of regional standards to enhance the attractiveness of local markets, e.g. in the context of transnational marketing campaigns.
