2025 ICAS Global Awards

ICAS organizes Global Awards for Effective Advertising Self-Regulation since 2019. Following the success of previous editions, most recently in Istanbul in 2023, the ICAS Awards continue to shine a spotlight on the creative, innovative, and impactful initiatives of SROs. These awards highlight the vital role of self-regulation in promoting ethical advertising practices across the globe.

Award Categories

SROs can submit multiple initiatives across various categories, including:

  1. Excellence Award
    For exceptional projects that embody the ICAS Charter Commitments.
  2. Inspiration Award
    Celebrating creative and impactful initiatives by SROs with limited resources.
  3. Innovation Award
    Honoring groundbreaking ideas and novel approaches in self-regulation.
  4. Sustainability Award
    Recognizing contributions to consumer trust and responsible marketing in sustainability and green claims.
  5. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award (in collaboration with the Unstereotype Alliance)
    Acknowledging initiatives that promote inclusivity and positive representation in advertising.

Submissions for the Awards are assessed by an independent Jury composed of the following members:

JURY CHAIRMAN

Jeffrey A, Greenbaum, Chairman of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance, Managing Partner of Frankfurt Kurnit

Jeff is the Managing Partner of U.S.-based law firm Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz and is a partner in the firm’s Advertising, Marketing & Public Relations Group.  He also serves as the Chairman of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance and as the Chair of the International Advertising Association’s Public Policy Council.  

Best Lawyers in America has twice named him “Advertising Lawyer of the Year” for the New York metro-area.

Elly I’Anson, Acting Head of the Unstereotype Alliance, UN Women

Elspeth is acting Head of the Unstereotype Alliance at UN Women, the United Nations entity for Gender Equality. Since February 2020 she has led communications for this global Alliance, working with its 240 member companies and 12 national chapters to eradicate harmful stereotypes from advertising and media content. Leveraging the ad industry as a force for good, the work of the Unstereotype Alliance pushes for progressive representation, positive norms and equality for all. 

Elspeth has worked in the Advertising and Communications industry for more than 15 years. She began her career at Mindshare UK as a Communications Planner before moving client side to work for Vodafone in its Global Brand team where she managed global campaigns and spearheaded its global brand repositioning. Following a long tenure at Vodafone, Elspeth joined Kingfisher PLC to launch a new international brand. Her pro bono consultancy to rebrand the UK NGO Validity led her to pursue her passion for human rights, and her current role with UN Women in New York.

Steve Babaeko, CEO/Chief Creative Officer, X3M Ideas

Steve is an advertising and music executive, a public advocate, and the CEO and Chief Creative Officer of X3M Ideas, a  digital advertising agency based in Lagos. In 2019,  X3M Ideas was awarded the most creative advertising agency in Nigeria. 

Over his 25 years of active service, Steve Babaeko helped and led some of the legendary marketing campaigns in Africa. 

Steve represents Africa on the global stage, having been a member of the jury at the New York Advertising Week, the Loeries, and Cristal Awards. He has also been a speaker at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. 

In 2019, he was listed in Adweek as one of the Top 100 Creatives in the World.

Shibani Gharat, Anchor and Associate Executive Producer at CNBC-TV18

Shibani Gharat is Associate Executive Producer and anchor with CNBC-TV18. She is also the editorial lead on the Network 18 Group’s marquee property, Storyboard18.

Shibani has 12 years of experience in managing news, projects and special features across media platforms- TV, Digital & Print. She has been with CNBC-TV18 for close to 10 years and has been successfully leading some key properties for the channel spread across domains such as, marketing, advertising, business of media, technology, health and fitness.

In her role with CNBC-TV18, Shibani has interviewed some of the most prominent names across the fields of advertising, media, tech and entertainment including, Sir Martin Sorrell (former CEO, WPP), Mark Read, (Current CEO WPP), Michael Roth (Executive Chairman, WPP), Maurice Levy, former chairman and CEO, Publicis Groupe, Sir John Hegarty (founder of BBH) and many other.

On weekends, she takes the role of an endurance athlete and is an avid ultra-marathoner having won and completed over 100 running events both in India and globally.

Raelene Martin, Head of Sustainability, International Chamber of Commerce

Raelene Martin is the Head of Sustainability at the International Chamber of Commerce. In this capacity, Raelene leads the development of ICC’s work on sustainability policy in the context of ICC’s Global Environment and Energy Commission. Raelene joined ICC in 2009 and has led ICC’s policy work in other areas including international tax policy as well as global standards setting for marketing and advertising. 

In this capacity, Raelene previously managed the portfolio of ICC’s Marketing and Advertising Commission, an international body of executive level experts that craft policy and business practice tools, including self-regulatory guidance in marketing and advertising communications that forms the foundation for most national and sector self-regulation. 

Prior to joining ICC, Ms Martin worked for a Zimbabwean law firm, Coghlan, Welsh & Guest, and later joined Colcom Foods Limited where she moved through evolving roles, eventually managing their marketing portfolio. 

Ms Martin studied International Commerce with specialization in Marketing at the University of South Africa.

Gabe Martinez, Senior Director of Legal, Strategic Growth & Marketing, The Clorox Company

Gabe joined The Clorox Company in September 2010.  He is responsible for counseling the business on all advertising, marketing and promotions issues for the company’s brands.  In particular, Gabe works closely with brand managers, R&D and PR to develop new advertising claims, partnerships with charities, marketing campaigns, social media executions and branded entertainment.  He also manages competitive advertising challenges before NAD and false advertising litigation. 

Prior to joining Clorox, Gabe was a member of the advertising groups at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and Loeb & Loeb in New York.  He attended Columbia University for college and law school.  Gabe currently lives in San Francisco’s fabulous Castro district where he enjoys oil painting, yoga and bourbon.

Charley Stoney, CEO, European Association of Communication Agencies (EACA) and Interim President of VoxComm

Charley has spent the last 30 years in the marketing and advertising industry, working in the UK and Ireland in both agencies and brand organizations. Before taking over in EACA, Charley has been the CEO of the Irish advertising trade body, IAPI, since 2018. There, she transformed the association into the leading voice for the commercial creative industry in Ireland, almost doubling its membership.  Charley is passionate about the business impact of great creative and introduced the global marketing effectiveness awards programme, Effies, to the Irish market in 2021. Charley also drove the support of Ad Net Zero across the industry, resulting in Ireland becoming the first country outside the UK to adopt the programme.  This year, she spear-headed the promotion of the Irish creative sector at Cannes Lions, including securing the first Enterprise Ireland trade mission to the festival.

Charley has joined EACA at a pivotal time for the industry.  Her ambition is to elevate the industry’s reputation across Europe, advocating at EU level on behalf of members, promote best and fair business practice, and ensure that the EACA remains relevant and beneficial to all key stakeholders.  She has served as the Chair of the National Associations Council on the EACA Board since 2022 and has been instrumental in shaping the strategic agenda for the organisation during that time.  She also served on the Board of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in Ireland for over six years where she worked closely with other Board members to improve the standing and reputation of the body with Government and Irish consumers.

Additionally to the Award categories mentioned above, a fifth award category has been introduced, the ICAS Special Recognition Award. This recognition is dedicated to SROs that have either delivered outstanding performance or have shown resilience or demonstrated exemplary commitment to advertising self-regulation by supporting regional initiatives or helped other SROs thrive. For this award, SROs cannot submit own initiatives, but can only be nominated by other ICAS members. The judging will take place by designated Executive Committee members and is thus an ICAS Executive Committee Award.

The 2025 Global ICAS Awards have been launched in December 2024 and the winners will be announced at the Global ICAS Ceremony in March 2025, in Mumbai, India, during the ICAS Annual Meetings.
