José Domingo Gómez Castallo receives ICAS Hall of Fame Award

ICAS recognizes AUTOCONTROL’s Director General for his exceptional leadership and contribution to global advertising self-regulation

The International Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (ICAS) is proud to announce that José Domingo Gómez Castallo, Director General of AUTOCONTROL, has been inducted in the ICAS Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding leadership and lifelong commitment to promoting responsible advertising and strengthening self-regulation worldwide.

The award was presented by Stephan Loerke, ICAS Vice-President and CEO of the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), and Sibylle Stanciu, Director of ICAS, during the 30th Anniversary Gala of AUTOCONTROL held at the Museo del Prado in Madrid on 14 October.

This distinction, granted on an exceptional basis by the ICAS Executive Committee, celebrates José Domingo’s remarkable professional career and in particular, his vision and key role in establishing ICAS in 2016, where he served as its first President, laying the foundation for the global network ICAS has become today.

In a personal letter of recognition, Hilary Souter, President of ICAS, conveyed the members’ deep gratitude for his decisive role in shaping ICAS:

Your vision, commitment, and leadership were pivotal in bringing together regulatory bodies from across the globe to create a unified council dedicated to upholding the standards and integrity of advertising. The foundation you laid has enabled ICAS to grow as an organization committed to fostering responsible advertising practices and promoting global self-regulation. The ICAS community is indebted to your leadership, and we look forward to building upon the foundation you created for many years to come.

Speaking at the ceremony, Stephan Loerke paid tribute to José Domingo’s far-reaching influence across national, regional, and global levels:

José Domingo’s contribution to advertising self-regulation is truly extraordinary — from building a trusted self-regulatory system in Spain, to transforming the European Advertising Standards Alliance into the organization it is today, supporting self-regulation in Latin America, and finally helping to establish ICAS as a global leader. His unwavering support for self-regulatory bodies across the globe demonstrates the breadth of his impact and his deep commitment to our shared values — all carried out with a rare sense of friendship, trust, and connection.

Over the past three decades, under José Domingo Gómez Castallo’s leadership, AUTOCONTROL has become a model of advertising self-regulation for countries across the globe and a key partner for policymakers, industry, and consumers in Spain. His work has also been central to ICAS’s development as a credible and influential global voice for ethical advertising.

ICAS warmly congratulates José Domingo Gómez Castallo for his recognition in the ICAS Hall of Fame and extends its sincere appreciation for his vision, integrity, and dedication to advancing responsible advertising worldwide.
