Guy Parker re-elected President of ICAS
At the annual meeting of the International Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (ICAS), Guy Parker, Chief Executive of the UK ASA, has been re-elected President for a second term, with the new term running until April 2025. Guy Parker will be supported by an expanded Executive Committee whose priority will be to strengthen and grow ICAS as well as increase the promotion of effective advertising self-regulatory programs as a way to ensure responsible marketing practices worldwide.
Launched as an independent organization in October 2016, ICAS is a global platform that promotes responsible advertising through effective advertising self-regulation. It brings together a network of Self-Regulatory Organizations (SROs) from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and North & South America as well as global associations representing the advertising industry (WFA, IAA, EPC, WOO) and experts on global advertising and marketing laws (GALA).
At the Annual General Meeting that took place in Istanbul on April 25, 2023, ICAS members re-elected Guy Parker as their President for a second term. Guy Parker is the Chief Executive of the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK. Responsible for executing the ASA’s strategy to have more impact online, he oversees all functions of the ASA system. Mr. Parker is also a Board and Executive Committee member of the European Advertising Standards Alliance, a Board member of the Fundraising Regulator and a member of the Fundraising Regulator’s Standards Committee.
Under Mr. Parker’s leadership, ICAS has grown and strengthened its membership base, especially in Asia and Europe, established strong relationships with external stakeholders such as UN bodies and the OECD and has successfully increased its advocacy efforts at the global level. During his tenure, ICAS launched its Charter, developed Global Guidance on Environmental Claims for the World Federation of Advertisers, and published a Framework for a sustainable partnership between platforms and SROs.
Guy Parker said:
I am delighted to be able to continue to build on the achievements of the last few years while developing and implementing a longer-term vision for ICAS together with our members. In the coming years, we will evolve the role of advertising self-regulation, focus on expanding our network, build even better relationships with stakeholders, and increase the visibility of ICAS and the great work of our members. Many challenges lie ahead, especially when it comes to advertising online, but we will continue our work to ensure advertising works better for everyone.
Guy Parker will be supported by four Vice-Presidents and nine members of the Executive Committee, also elected for a two-year mandate.
The elected Vice Presidents are: Stephan Loerke, CEO of the World Federation of Advertisers, Hilary Souter, Chief Executive of the ASA New Zealand, Manisha Kapoor, CEO of the Advertising Standards Council of India and Mary Engle, EVP Policy at BBB National Programs in the US.
