ICAS extends reach to the Middle East
On Friday 6 October 2017, the Advertising Business Group (ABG), the Dubai-based Self-Regulatory Body, officially became the 28th member of the International Council for Ad Self-Regulation (ICAS).
ICAS is a global platform which promotes Responsible Advertising through effective Self-Regulation. Its members include Self-Regulatory Organizations (SROs) and other national, regional and international bodies working to ensure that marketing communications are legal, honest, truthful and decent.
In the words of its Chairperson, Mr Sanjiv Kakkar, the ABG is a “not-for profit industry body that advocates for ethical advertising via Self-Regulation”. Launched in November 2016 in replacement of the former GCC Advertisers Association, it gathers key players from the Gulf Cooperation Council including marketers, advertising agencies and media owners.
Mr José Domingo Gómez Castallo, ICAS President, welcomed the extension of ICAS’ network to the Middle East and said:
The International Council for Ad Self-Regulation is truly global in scope and we are extremely happy to have the Advertising Business Group on board. Despite local specificities in each market, we all face common challenges and we must work together to ensure that marketing communications are prepared with a due sense of social responsibility and in a spirit of fair competition.
